What is A Pen for Pearl?  A diary of sorts...a photography journal.

A Pen for Pearl is dedicated to my grandmother, Gloria Pearl, in honor of her

faithfulness to handwritten letters and her love for the beautiful things in life.

May her legacy be carried on through my journal as I correspond

regularly with you, always remembering the beauty that surrounds us.

I am a Tampa wedding photographer, and I specialize in capturing natural,

personal, romantic images.  I shoot primarily with film...a timeless medium.  I

would love for you to visit A Pen for Pearl frequently!  Consider it an

invitation to sit with me on my patio, enjoy a home brewed latte, and

browse through a handful of photographs together...

~The Full Length Veil~

A couple weeks ago, I talked about how much I enjoy photographing a bride in a veil…it adds such drama to the image. Generally, any time I have the opportunity to add texture to a photograph, it’s a good thing. A veil adds not only texture, but romance too. And given the choice…which, of course, is never really mine to make…I would always choose a full length veil. This photograph is of my beautiful assistant Christina at her wedding this spring….I’m so happy she chose to take this traditional route…and I didn’t even talk her into it.

Photographers, this was shot at dusk, about 15 minutes after the sun had set. I used my Contax 645, 80mm Zeiss lens, wide open at 2.0. Film stock was Kodak Portra 400, pushed to 1600, processed and scanned by Richard Photo Lab, desaturated and toned in post production using Adobe Lightroom.

Happy Tuesday!

xoxo,
Gina Leigh

Christina - I like my full length veil too! :) And, no, you didn't talk me into it... (at least not consciously!!) I remember initially I wanted NO veil at all. Then I decided the only veil I could ever wear was a birdcage veil. Then, when I found my dress, I decided the only veil I could ever wear with that dress was a cathedral one. Oh, the ever-changing mind of a bride. Looking back I am very happy with my choice.
